History of Pilates

Pilates was invented in the 1920s by a German physical educator named Joseph Pilates, who popularized the system in United Kingdom and Germany, and then later in the United States. The Pilates system first gained popularity among dancers, including the ballerinas of the New York City Ballet. Since then, a number of his students opened up their own studios and began teaching Pilates to the general population. Today there are more than 11 million people practicing Pilates regularly.
